Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hussein Ahmed is a Full Professor of English Linguistics and Pragmatics and a senior higher education leader in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He currently serves as Director General and Head of the Apparatus of Supervision and Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a position he has held since 2018. In this capacity, he leads national efforts in academic quality assurance, accreditation, university governance reform, and alignment with international higher education standards, including the Bologna Process. Prof. Ahmed earned his PhD in English Linguistics and Pragmatics from the University of Sulaimani in 2011, following his MA in English Methodology and Applied Linguistics from Diyala University (2006) and BA in English Language and Literature from Salahaddin University (2000). His academic career includes serving as Exchange Faculty at Appalachian State University (USA) and Academic Visitor at Aston University (UK), experiences that strengthened his international academic engagement and research profile. Throughout his career, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Head of English Departments, Acting Dean, International Relations Officer at the Ministry, and Chief of Staff for CIJA in Iraq. He has chaired and served on high-level ministerial committees related to national accreditation, curriculum reform, university ranking systems, SDG implementation (2030 Agenda), psychological health legislation, anti-human trafficking policy, and CBRN preparedness in higher education institutions. A committed scholar, Prof. Ahmed has published widely in linguistics, curriculum reform, digital transformation in higher education, and artificial intelligence in academia. He has taught extensively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in linguistics, pragmatics, research methods, forensic linguistics, and TESOL. He also serves as an evaluator for academic promotions, theses, and international journals. In addition to his governmental and academic leadership, he is the Founder and CEO of Vision Agency for International Development (VisionAID), an NGO dedicated to sustainable development, education reform, youth empowerment, women’s leadership, environmental sustainability, genocide studies, and international collaboration. Prof. Ahmed’s work bridges academia, policy, and international cooperation, reflecting his commitment to advancing quality education, institutional reform, social justice, and sustainable development in the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
