Pauline Muhonja is a Kenyan with result-driven Gender Equality, Women’s Empowerment and Humanitarian Leader with over 15 years of progressive experience designing, leading and transforming gender-responsive programmes across Africa and the Middle East, including Iraq, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, and South Africa. Pauline has extensive expertise in advancing women's leadership, economic empowerment, protection, safeguarding, and social inclusion for refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees and vulnerable host communities. She has proven success in designing and scaling innovative women’s economic empowerment initiatives, including Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), Economic and Social Empowerment (EA$E), Gender Discussion Series (GDS), EMAP and SASA! approaches that strengthen women's leadership, increase household decision-making, promote positive masculinities and reduce gender-based violence. She has demonstrated ability to lead multisectoral/multicultural teams, strengthen women-led organizations, build institutional and partner capacity, and influence policy through strategic engagement with governments, UN agencies, donors, civil society and private sector actors. Pauline is Experienced in strategic planning, organizational development, partnership management, resource mobilization, evidence-based programming, innovation, safeguarding, localization, gender equality, protection, and accountability to affected populations. Pauline has a proven track record having trained and mentored over 6,000 staff, partners and community leaders while leading high-impact programmes funded by BHA, FCDO, ECHO, UN agencies and other international donors. Pauline is recognized advocate for survivor-centred programming and inclusive leadership. Pauline has a Master of Science in Community Health and Development and ongoing doctoral (PhD) research focused on strengthening survivor-centred systems for sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) holistic care. Pauline is passionate about empowering women and girls to become resilient leaders, expanding their access to economic opportunities, influencing policy, and driving sustainable, climate change, and social transformation through locally led, rights-based and gender-transformative development.
